It is important to open the windows every so often in the summer and fall to check how dirty it has gotten. You can use soap water and a vacuum for routine cleaning. Check the tracks as well to make sure it is all running smoothly.
To test for functionality, check that your windows open and close correctly. Make sure to close, lock, and seal in the winter. You should also check the balances in the top of the window. You can feel and look for potential weak spots that may be creating a draft as well. Lastly, check the top and bottom sashes and double check that the window is opening and closing correctly.
