Enhance a Home’s Curb Appeal With an Exterior Makeover

Client Profile & Need

A married couple living in a 50-year-old house in Chicago’s northern suburbs. The house needed replacement windows because the old, wooden windows were leaky. The initial intent was just to replace the windows. But the roof was low-pitched and leaked, and the client was shoveling snow off it several times a year. The aluminum siding had faded. So the client decided on a complete exterior renovation.

Process & Challenges

The Forde team:

• Listened to the clients and helped them determine goals, budget and timeline
• Helped the clients select the appropriate products
• Selected and installed Andersen double pane windows that provided greater insulation
• Replaced the roof, including installing an ice shield under the shingles that prevents leaking and eliminates the need for the client to shovel snow off the roof
• Installed James Hardie fiber cement siding that is prestained to look like traditional cedar siding, but is much more durable (the stain is guaranteed for 25 years)
• Replaced the gutters, soffit and fascia
• Changed the portico to enhance curbside appeal
• Additionally, the Forde team remodeled the inside of the house including:
  • Complete bathroom remodeling of two bathrooms
  • Replacing carpeting with hardwood floors
  • Changing the fireplace mantle from a plain wooden mantle into one that was inset into a brick wall
  • Adding cabinetry to hide the entertainment system
